A Light Has Dawned
We have a strange relationship with darkness. By nature we are scared of the dark. It’s why we check under our children’s beds and watch scary movies with a group of friends in a well lit room. But sometimes the darkness beckons us because it promises to conceal. To hide us away from pain, sorrow, and shame. We don’t want others to see our vulnerabilities, our hurts and our sorrows. We don’t want our confusion, shame and disgrace exposed to the light. But we all know a life spent hidden in the shadows and the darkness is no life at all. That’s why Jesus came. Jesus is the true light who enters into this world of darkness and death. When we by His light finally and truly see, our only response is to repent and follow Him.
“the people dwelling darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned”
Matthew 4:16
Jesus is not just a light stading on a hill calling those who can to come to him. He is the light that plunges into our darkness and rebellion. Giving us light to see as he takes our sin and shame and sorrow, heals it, and makes us whole again.
