The Lord’s Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer models for Christians how we can approach Our Father. It is a beautiful depiction of the life of abiding concern, love, and fellowship the Father desires with us. Indeed, in it we find language to calm the restless hearts within.

Our father in heaven, hallowed be your name…

Matthew 6:9ff

The Third Sunday in Lent
Heavenly Father, you have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you: Look with compassion upon the heartfelt desires of your servants, and purify our disordered affections, that we may behold your eternal glory in the face of Christ Jesus; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Sunday’s Readings
Ephesians 4:14-20
Psalm 138
Matthew 6:5-15

Questions to Consider

  • Do you pray? Why or Why not?

  • How are your prayers like the Lord’s prayer? How are they different?

  • How does your praying (or lack thereof) shape your relationship with God?
